Main gas production assets were designed based on scientific and engineering concepts developed in 1970-80s and were commissioned more than 30 years ago. These fields ensuring over 50 % of Gazprom’s total gas production are currently 70–80 % depleted. Production rate is currently decreasing and soon these fields will enter into the final development stage. For this reason, Gazprom PJSC systematically develops and implements measures for upgrade of the infield facilities to ensure smooth gas production process and, primarily, to ensure safe production. In these circumstances, the development and implementation of new technical solutions is one of the key points for the improvement of field operation efficiency at different development stages. In this respect, the implementation of automated control systems represents an integral part of this approach. Need for development and implementation of automated gas production systems with the use of digital technologies that provide automatic operation of the production facility in different service conditions regard to phased development of gas fields increased in 2000s when Gazprom PJSC started the development of new gas fields in the Arctic Region, Yamal Peninsula and Eastern Siberia that are characterized by extreme weather, difficult geological and geographical conditions. The article presents the main results of developing and testing new generation automated process systems produced in Russia, including the pilot wells with concentric tubing, modular compressor units, booster compressor stations, and gas compressor units.
