» Modern NDT tools for oilfield pipeline inspectionOpen PDF
This paper is intended for managers working for oil companies. Historically, Russian oil companies did not pay enough attention to their oilfield pipelines inspection operations. Pipelines inspections are still frequently conducted with the only practical goal of receiving formal approvals to extend pipelines service life. During the last decade non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment and methods have acquired qualitatively new capabilities to produce reliable examination results in any type of oilfield pipelines. This opens up new opportunities to ensure oilfield pipelines failure-free operation and cost reduction. The concept of oilfield pipelines inspection is described in the article; available positive experience of applying state-of-the-art non-destructive testing tools and techniques summarized. The article also deals with major production issues that can be resolved through pipeline inspection, as well as approaches to the inspection business process management including typical patterns and work-associated costs. The conclusion contains the list of outstanding issues and proposed steps to further develop inspection capabilities where in-line inspection cannot be performed.

» The improvement of horizontal well construction technology with invertemulsion drilling fluidsOpen PDF
Invert emulsion drilling fluids are quite successfully used in horizontal drilling in the Perm region. The composition of these drilling fluids is improved to produce low-viscosity invert emulsions having optimal structural and rheological properties, with high content of weighting agent and stability of parameters depending on temperature. In addition, the construction horizontal well technology is improved through implementation of additional measures to clean the borehole, using the new spacers, technical tools and expanding material for cementing, multiple re-using of waste mud.

Listing the desired functions of automated power control systems and developing their implementation methods and algorithms remain relevant for the creation of modern high-tech power systems. This work keeps on exploring the topic of building an enterprise-specific power consumption probability model, the research started in . The first article offered methods that allow for building individual power consumption probability models; also, a number of related subjects has been considered in that work. Here methods/algorithms of power consumption predictive assessment are suggested for a whole enterprise, and a number of other related issues has been brought up as well. Major assumptions have been left as they are.

» The coal mine gas treatment for supplying of gas-reciprocating power plantsOpen PDF
The example of completed project of coal mine gas utilization at the mine «Severnaya» (JSC «Vorkutaugol») is discussed in the paper. The coal mine gas utilization for this object consists of production of thermal and electric power in the gas-reciprocating thermal power plants GPTES № 1 and № 2. The issue studies the used technology of gas treatment, the comparative estimation of the treated coal mine gas of GPTES № 1, № 2 in the accordance with the requirements for fuel gas for the GPTES № 1 and № 2 gas engines is made.

Using sucker rod pumps for oil production is one of the oldest and most widely spread artificial lift approaches. There haven’t been many upgrades to this technology, but there have been some. The latest one is a linear drive by Unico Inc., which has already been employed by quite a few oil companies. The 1st unit of this type in Russia was assembled at Krasnoyarsk field by Orenburgneft company, in February of 2013. What advantages or disadvantages has it demonstrated during initial operating period? Is there a chance the technology could be rolled out? The authors have analyzed pros and cons of the unique solution and have shared their vision in regards to its application prospects.

» Reducing the level of consumed power by adjusting pressure with VFDOpen PDF
Dependence of electric power consumed by the station pump units on the head generated under frequency control by means of frequency transformer (FT) is considered. Methods for calculation of minimum power consumed by pump units under pre-defined supply depending on the pump station head (Jefferson functions) with due regard to all the driver elements efficiency (FT, multiplier, electric motor) are given. Function of minimum electric power consumption dependence on the pump station head depending on supply can be defined in connected domain or in several non-overlapping domains. Application of Jefferson function significantly facilitates search for global minimum of energy consumption for pumping through pipeline section with arbitrary number of stations.

» Pre-project estimating the parameters of protect systems of the marine oil terminals from the hydraulic shockOpen PDF
An engineering method for pre-project estimating the parameters of the protect system marine oil terminals from the hydraulic shock is presented in this paper. The method allows to calculate a number of safety valves and to find capacity of every from them. Such estimations are necessary to determine the size of the devices in the protect system to allocate a place for them on the jetty in advance.

» Estimation of use resonability of compressor units with different power in compressor sheds of underground gas storagesOpen PDF
In the article, used as a basis operating conditions analyses, it is suggested to use compressor units with different power in compressor sheds of underground gas storages to reduce fuel cost. Estimation of realization efficiency of suggested method by compressor shed reconstruction is given. Results shows that use of different power compressor units in compressor sheds of underground gas storages enable to expand operating conditions range and reduce fuel consumption by 11–22 %.

» Economic aspect of accidents at oil pipelinesOpen PDF
The article deals with analysis of causes and effects of trunk oil pipelines accidents in the RF. It contains calculation of cost of the escaped oil, expenses for oil pipeline maintenance and elimination of other accident and oil spillage effects. Conclusions on the necessity to improve shut-off valves structure are drawn from the calculations. The article may be useful for employees of profile design, scientific and research companies and enterprises engaged in valves engineering.
