(CREATING A UNIFIED RESERVOIR FLUID MODEL THROUGH VERTICAL COMPOSITIONAL GRADIENT)

The study of reservoir fluid vertical compositional gradient is currently receiving increased attention due to the rapid development and implementation of digital twins of oil and gas fields and the requirements for accuracy in describing the composition and properties of reservoir fluid from the model. It is known that variation in fluid composition down the section is influenced by gravity. In addition, thermodiffusion of heavy fluid components from the lower layers of the productive horizon to the upper ones can have a noticeable effect. This phenomenon is typically observed for volatile oils, gas condensate, and near-critical fluids in high-temperature reservoirs. The effect of thermodiffusion on the reservoir fluid vertical compositional gradient is still poorly understood, and few simulators have the tools to set up and describe the mathematical calculations to reproduce experimental results.
The article considers an example of creating a model of reservoir gas of Achimov deposits of the Urengoyskoye field (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), where the influence of thermodiffusion on the variation of fluid vertical compositional gradient is noticeable as supported by field measurements. Without taking this into account, i. e. only by calculating the gravity distribution, it is impossible for a mathematical model to accurately describe the variation in the composition of this fluid down the section. The article presents specific primary materials of field and laboratory measurements, important elements of interpretation of these data and the results obtained by a simulation model that factors in the effect of thermodiffusion.
The new model of reservoir gas in Achimov deposits of the Urengoyskoye field for the first time made it possible to get away from the difficult-to-prove concept of non-cohesive, “block” structure of reservoirs, and to describe the fluid not only by an equation of state with unified parameters, but also by a general description of its composition grading, i. e. to represent a single fluid in a common pore space (reservoir).
