(PROSPECTS FOR GROWTH OF GAS SUPPLY TO CHINA MARKET)
In 2022 Russia faced the issue on how to diversify delivery destinations for the produced natural gas. Importing countries of Asia and mainly China are considered to be the most promising Russia’s business partners due to their geographic proximity, economic value, long-term consumption growth, and insufficient domestic resources to meet their demand.
The article provides the results of assessment of the real potential for supplying natural gas to China. For this purpose, the article analyses historical data on natural gas consumption growth in the country, provides the comparative characteristics of fuel balance of China and other European and Asian countries. It considers resent and projected changes to legislation and the energy strategy.
We revealed that the share of natural gas in China fuel balance is still considerably low compared to the global average value. Growth prospects are mainly driven by consumption growth in industrial and transport sectors.
