(OPTIONS TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY OF DG90 GAS TURBINE-POWERED ENGINE)
The paper proposes three stages for upgrading DG90 gas turbine-powered engine to increase its efficiency and improve its pollutant emissions. Stage I (TM16) with advanced combustion chamber (premixed fuel, CO and NOx emissions at rated power < 50 mg/m3), improved radial clearance sealing of high and low pressure turbine impellers, and new sparingly doped heatresistant alloys to reduce cooling air consumption. Stage II (TM16M) with a moderate increase in cycle limits that requires the development of high pressure compressor with increased head and replacement of 1st and 2nd stage turbine blades. Stage III (TM16M2 and TM25) with air cooling between compressors.
The paper presents calculations for the air cooler heat exchanger and high pressure compressor for TM25 design. The heat exchanger is designed with 8 × 1 mm tubes and 67 °C of water outlet temperature (for supply to heating systems). The compressor downstream of the air cooler has 9 stages, with a total pressure rise of 8. Compression ratios for the first and last stage are 1.40 and 1.17 respectively, and the reaction ratio increases monotonically from 0.75 to 0.83.
Stage I is expected to result in efficiency gain of 1.40 %, and stage II – 1.10 to 1.35 %. Stage III assumes developing new TM16M2 and TM25 engines based on DG90, with at least 40 % efficiency and moderate cycle limits, which will ensure lower cost and higher reliability.
